Do you need ethical approval?
Only research involving primary data collection from human participants needs a Gisma ethics application — including pilot studies.
Primary data
Interviews, focus groups, questionnaires, observation or experiments involving people. You must apply, and you may not begin collecting data until the decision is Approved.
Secondary data only
Published datasets, company reports, archives and literature. No application is needed — record it in the portal and you will get a confirmation to keep with your dissertation.
